AirBnB-style fitness platform looks to expand
Over the past 5 years, there has been a movement within the fitness industry centered on catering for people on a more personal level. Gyms are now open 24 hours a day with equipment that can integrate with health tracking technology to provide a personalised workouts just for you. Even nutritional supplements can be custom blended by vending machines to suit the user.
Concierge health and fitness is predicted to be a growing trend in the future and is already something we are beginning to see with platforms currently on the market that enable you to talk to and summon an on-demand doctor via an app (read more). However, these services often come with a high price tag making them inaccessible to most. Furthermore, there is still yet to be a platform of this kind within health and fitness that offers a subscription free service the likes of Uber, AirBnB and Deliveroo, making it one area where fitness has been somewhat blind sighted.
WeTrain is a London based company that is aiming to fill this gap in the market using a first of its kind social fitness platform. Having launched the app in July WeTrain has gone from strength to strength as it set about to fill what it called ‘the white space in the fitness market’ and revolutionise the way Londoners socialise through a new type of ‘social-exercise’. Requiring no joining or membership fee, users simply download the app or visit the website where they can search for and join exercise classes in their area that match their desired level of intensity as well as speaking directly to the trainer. By making fitness more social and accessible Wetrain aims to break down some of the many pre-existing barriers to fitness helping to make it more accessible to all.
The platform also benefits trainers by allowing them to easily boost their earning potential. A key to the success of platforms like AirBnB and Uber is not only in being able to provide the customer with direct access to the products and services they really want, when they want them, but also by helping the vendors and service providers by enabling the to earn by working for how long and how much as they chose, without a middleman.
WeExperience and Crowd Funding launch
Today WeTrain has kicked off a £600,000 investment drive on the equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs. This will enable WeTrain to develop the service further as well as expanding across London and potentially beyond in future. This coincides with the launch of WeExperience – a first of its kind fitness-brunch which takes working out and socialising with friends to a whole new level. Curated by the UK’s health and fitness experts, groups can book a range of memorable and once-in-a-lifetime experiences where they are trained by world athletes and experts before joining them for premium food or lifestyle experience. Taster sessions running in November include a kickboxing masterclass with Ruqsana Begum followed by a superfood boxer’s breakfast hosted by the world champion herself.
Adrian Mooney, WeTrain’s CEO and co-founder, comments:
“Our mission is to help people ‘exercise their social life’ and change the way people workout. WeTrain has huge potential within a fitness industry worth £62 billion globally and, by creating a credible alternative to other social activities, we also tap into the leisure market.
WeTrain is proven to work, now we want to replicate our launch success in other parts of London and continue to challenge the status quo with our innovative WeExperience offering. We are excited to free more Londoners from out-dated, restrictive membership models, help increase fitness professionals’ earnings by maximising their spare capacity and offer our customers the opportunity to be part of our future success by owning shares in the business through Seedrs.”
WeTrain’s four co-founders combined expertise brings decades of experience running fitness businesses such as UpMySport and OC Sport, and cross-EMEA marketing campaigns for household name brands such as Weetabix and Heinz. They have also secured strategic board members in the leisure and entertainment sector, including Vue Cinema founder and CEO Tim Richards, in order to guarantee success in this new social-exercise category.
For those wishing to try the brand new fitness concept WeExperience, the company is hosting eight taster sessions throughout November, available to be booked online. The Seedrs campaign is live now.
