Health seeking businesses descend on Geneva
Vitafoods Europe returned to Palexpo, Geneva with visitors descending on the exhibition to source new suppliers and take advantage of the educational and business opportunities on offer.
Over 14,000 visitors including C level-professionals, product developers, R&D specialists, senior marketers and procurement specialists from food and health supplement manufacturers, distributors, retailers and wholesalers, took to the exhibition floor as they looked to source the latest ingredients and raw materials from 750 global exhibitors. Exhibitors included the likes of DSM, Labialfarma, Nexira, Awex, 3i nature and Pharmexcil, and first-time exhibitors such as Specchiasol Srl, Vidya Herbs Inc, Tasa Omega and GAP SA, representing over 40 different countries.
Ingredia Nutritional will this year presented the newest addition to their range Wellmune. Numerous clinical studies, performed on over 900 volunteers and published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, have demonstrated Wellmune’s efficacy in everyday immune support and overall wellbeing. Unlike some immune health ingredients which over-stimulate the immune system in ways that may be harmful overtime, Wellmune naturally enhances human immune responses by boosting key innate immune cells (neutrophils) that are part of the body’s natural defenses. Therefore ensuring immediate and maximal protection.
The company also hosted a 5k race around the ground of the Pal Expo exhibition centre with all participants being issued with a recovery drink after the race.
DSM presented its expanding portfolio of natural products, sourced from a range of wholesome sources including olives, tomatoes, oats and algae. Recent consumer insights reveal that demand for natural products is thriving, with global retail value sales in herbal and traditional dietary supplements now reaching US$412 million. Despite the push for natural, recent studies demonstrate that the majority of adults do not get the recommended intake of essential micronutrients. Natural foods are not necessarily nutrient rich, which is why fortification is important. DSM can fortify products without making them less natural, using natural ingredients that are backed by science, helping to address this nutritional shortfall and enabling manufacturers to make strong health claims.
DSM’s portfolio contains products supported by EU approved health claims, including nutritional lipids such as life’sDHA™, a vegetarian source of DHA omega-3 from algae that provides heart, brain and eye benefits and life’sOMEGA™ 60, the first high potency vegetarian omega-3 fatty acid product on the market; OatWell® oat beta-glucan, which helps lower the risk of cardiovascular disease by reducing cholesterol levels and Fruitflow®, the first natural scientifically substantiated solution contributing to healthy blood flow. DSM’s natural portfolio also includes FloraGLO® Lutein and the OPTISHARP™ Natural brand of zeaxanthin, both of which are carotenoids found in the human eyes and elaVida™, a superior olive polyphenol preparation made from olives with antioxidant benefits. Also on stand will be Fortitech Premixes® by DSM – a custom nutrients premixes service that can help customers develop any natural formulation to suit their needs.

Lycored highlighted the efficacy of two of its proprietary nutrient complexes based on standardized tomato extracts, with particular emphasis on solutions for cardiovascular and skin health. Established for 20 years, Lycored uses proprietary extraction techniques to bring to market pioneering natural ingredients derived from its own particular breed of tomato. Rich in Lycored’s ‘hero’ nutrients, these ingredients fight oxidative stress and control intercellular inflammation, contributing to their positive impact on maintaining cardiovascular health and protecting the skin from photo damage.
Activ’Inside presented the first results of a recent clinical trial. Its formulation – called SkinAx² – shows beneficial effects on skin radiance. SkinAx² is a synergic innovative association of both primary and secondary antioxidants from botanical sources. The 8 weeks clinical trial has evaluated the effect of a daily oral dose of 150 mg of SkinAx² on healthy women with dull complexion. Women were aged between 40 to 70 years old.
SkinAx² is a synergic association of 4 natural active compounds: flavanols monomers from French grape seeds, SuperOxide Dismutase (SOD) form French melon juice, zinc and vitamin C. Ingredients of SkinAx² have carefully been selected and associated for optimal skin radiance efficiency. The choice is based on an extensive bibliographical research concerning the mechanism of action, active dosage, bioavailability and bioactivity of each compound.
The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of a daily dose of SkinAx² on skin radiance of healthy volunteers with dull complexion. The 8 weeks clinical trial included 13 clinical parameters and 8 self-assessment questions. The clinical scoring of the skin radiance was the principal criterion, measured by CLBT (Color, Luminosity, Brightness, Transparency) and heterogeneity of the complexion tests. The study, led by Activ’Inside, was conducted in France.
