Bacopin poses solution for brain maintenance
With growing populations and people living longer, one thing is guaranteed – we are going to need a lot more health care in future. However in present day demands on health systems are huge. In the UK experts are already warning that the NHS is at breaking point with the issue proving to be something of a political football in the coming election.
The cost of treating age related conditions in particular is astounding. Presenting at NutraFormulate’s Tech Focus, Sabinsa’s Dr Ajax Mohamed shared reports from the World Health Organisation that $604 billion dollar is spent annually of age related care with the majority of this cost going on Alzheimers disease. In the USA alone approximately $265 billion is spent on cancer, a figure comparable to the $205 billion spent on Alzheimers. The future prognosis is therefore rather grim as we can expect less health care per tax dollar and many may be forced into paying the rising prices for private health care.
The solution to our future health woes is of course for people to act early to maintain their health rather than react later to try and manage their illness. One possible solution is the ingredient Bacopin, an extract from the Bacopa monniera Wettst which has been used in traditional Indian herbal medicine for almost 3000 years. Research has shown that bacosides can repair damage to neurones to promote nerve impulse transmission in the brain. The most important of these are the effects of the plant, plant extracts and isolated bacosides on cognition and memory functions, their anxiolytic effects, their role in the management of convulsive disorders and reducing the risk of developing Alzheimers disease.
