Health product trends with Innova Market Insights analyst Yasemin Özdemir
Innova Market Insight a well known market analyst were once again presenting the biggest trends in the industry at Health Ingredients Europe 2014.
Speaking to analyst Yasemin Özdemir it is clear the the protein boom is far from over as producers now seek to diversify in terms of protein source and product format. One of the products presented included Green Bugs tomato sauce which includes meal worms. This is amongst a growing number of insect based products to hit the market including Inescta, a range of burgers also make from meal worms.
Another interesting take on protein was a meat bar made from lamb. An interesting development in line with growth in similar product categories such as beef jerky which saw sales jump to $1.24 billion in 2013, up 46% between 2009 and 2013, according to market research specialist Information Resources.
Water may seem a relatively safe category although it does enjoy a fair amount of innovation as company’s try to grab a greater share of the $117 billion market. The innovation of clear protein now means water is a prime candidate for protein enrichment in order to offer an even more compelling healthy drink option.
