Who’s ready for healthier ice cream alternative?
A popular desert the world over and the perfect compliment to a summer’s day, ice cream is also the go-to desert when talking about unhealthy indulgence. Brands have in the past attempted to formulate low-sugar and low-fat ice creams but on the whole, the result has simply been products which fail to provide the sweet taste and creamy texture that one would expect.
Choosing instead to approach from a completely different angle is Frill – not an ice-cream or a sorbet but rather a frozen fruit and veg smoothie. Not only is Frill right on the free-from trend being dairy and gluten free with no added sugar, but Frill also attempts to provide a solution for our fibre intake deficit in the west by providing a desert that is 10 times the fibre whilst half the fat and sugar of ice cream.
The product took 3 years to develop and is made entirely from high-quality whole fruits and vegetables. It comes in many of the traditional flavours such as chocolate and strawberry, albeit from more genuine sources, but Frill also innovates with some bold new flavours of avocado and basil.
One area where Frill also sets the bar is that whilst it is vegan and free-from friendly, the brand makes a conscious effort not to label itself as “vegan” or “free-from”, believing that good food options are for everyone regardless of how you may or may not choose to label yourself.
Frill is available from Waitrose, Whole Foods Market and Ocado.
