Headphones that take your pulse, a digital coach for your back, a high-tech shirt and a new dimension in group fitness: the FIBO Innovation Awards 2015 offers a host of innovations. For the 16th time, companies were invited to apply for the prize, which is presented in cooperation with TÜV Rheinland Group and Fit For Fun magazine. A total of 70 products were entered, and the 13 nominees have just been determined.
The Dr. Wolff Get Functional, an all-in-one device for functional strength training using one’s own body weight or additional weights for flexibility or fascia training, was able to win over the jury. With a footprint of just 0.8 m², it offers beginners and advanced trainees a sophisticated health training experience in group or personal training, both indoors and out. Thanks to an athletics programme, the device is also suitable for high-performance sports. It can be disassembled into three parts in about 10 seconds for easy space-saving transport and storage.
Thanks to its innovative, space-saving “three-sided functionality”, physioLoop beFunc enables complete strength, flexibility and coordination workouts on less than a square metre. The training concept can be used as an individual station, a multivariable training circuit or a group training aid. As such it is perfectly suited for fitness studios or rehab facilities. An optional galvanised coating is available for outdoor training.
Les Mills Immersive Fitness represents the next step in the evolution of group fitness. Participants train in a special studio setup inside a 270 degree video projection covering three entire walls. Participants and instructors interact with the video projections, which reinforces the sensation of being immersed in a new world.

Fluidity Studio Barre and Fluidity Instructor Training offers fitness facilities a turnkey solution for superior barre programmes. The equipment enables comprehensive and scientifically sound training. This exciting innovation was nominated for the FIBO Innovation Award, as well.
Motion Fitness Motion Board is a balance board complete with an acoustic signal, ON/OFF functionality and an integrated app. The board is available in three levels of difficulty. It’s stylish, functional and perfect for workouts in any discipline. What’s more, the specially developed wall mount turns it into a sporty art object.
ambiotex was nominated for an innovative high-tech shirt that captures vital body data with medical accuracy, including heart rate, stress level, the individual anaerobic threshold, steps walked and calories burned. Vitals are transmitted via BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) directly to the ambiotex app, where they’re used as an analysis tool to enhance individual performance.
Valedo received its nomination for the digital back health coach. The certified product for medical consumers enables controlled self-therapy of the lower back. It features wearable technology with sophisticated yet intuitive software aimed at fulfilling specific tasks. Valedo technology is used, for example, to turn therapeutic exercises developed by medical experts and therapists into a fun interactive game.
The MOTR (“More than a roller”) is a multifunctional combination of foam roller and 3-step resistance trainer. It enables varied full-body workouts and is ideally suited for cardio, balance, strength and functional training. The MOTR is great for group and personal classes alike. All components are stored compactly inside the roller to ensure total flexibility.
The Cybex Eagle NX Back Extension by Cybex International promotes controlled movements thanks to the curved lumbar pad. The pad supports dual-position exercise by allowing the user to perform hip extensions, lumbar extensions or both at the same time. A counterbalance mechanism offsets the user’s weight for more consistent loading, which in turn makes workouts more effective.
