New products from protein innovator
Dr Zak’s has been a leading innovator within the protein fortified food product category for some time. We caught up with Ray Brilus, Managing Director of Dr Zak’s at their fourth year exhibiting at BodyPower Expo to get a better insight into where the company is heading next.
Dr Zak’s launch product for which they have become renowned is it’s high protein bread with each slice offering 15g of pea protein. The choice of protein here was a wise move indeed. Whilst many have attempted to use pea protein in sweet milkshake type products, they have ultimately been unsuccessful due to the taste profile. Choosing instead to use pea protein isolate in a dry savoury application has prove to be a much wiser move. Such has been the positive feedback to Protein Bread that the company is now expanding to new product lines.
Putting everyday foods back on the menu
Keeping to its winning formula of improving staple foods that are often avoided in fitness circles through protein fortification, the next innovation was Protein Pasta, which provides 50g of pea protein isolate per 100g as well as Protein Bagels with 24g of pea protein isolate each.
Protein Peanut Butter
The next innovation planned are nut Protein Peanut Butters, this time opting for whey protein to suit the sweeter and more creamy desired texture of the product, that will be available in varieties including Salted Caramel, Fresh Raspberry, Apple & Cinnamon, White Chocolate & Coconut and Cherry Bakewell. These will also be accompanied by a powdered Protein Peanut Butter which offers an 80% fat reduction.
The company will also be offering bottled ambient egg whites which can be stored at cool room temperature without refrigeration as well as further diversification with a Coconut Oil that will be the first product in a new Essentials Range.
