Vitafoods Asia 2012 enjoyed a record attendance with more than 2,600 attendees from 56 countries, including China, South Korea, Japan and Thailand as well as visitors from Europe, the Americas, Middle East and Africa passed through the doors. Some 89 percent of the audience came from within Asia itself. Exhibitors showcasing their products at this year’s show included both international brands such as DSM, Croda, Danisco, Chr Hansen and Glanbia Nutritionals, as well as local companies including Alona Medicinals, Beijing Gingko Group,Tsuno Food Industrial and Coland Holdings.

The newly created Hosted Buyers Sessions, held to match key buyers with relevant exhibitors was well received from both sides, attracting senior buyers from across China, including the Deputy General Manger of Red Bull Vitamin Drink, the Chairman of Chau Pharmaceutical Group and the General Manager of Guangzhou Fisherman Medical Science and Technology.
Other features included the free Seminar Theatre, sponsored by DSM Nutritional Products, which included presentations from industry experts such as Katrina Diamonon, Senior Analyst at Datamonitor Australia, Professor Nagendra Shah, Hong Kong Food Science and Technology Association who and Gao Peng, Secretary-General of Consultation Committee at the China Health Care Association.
The New Products Zone, sponsored by Ingredia Nutritional, featured over 100 new ingredients and products launched in the last 12 months. Products submitted included Evonia Keratin capsules developed by Finnish company Hankintatukku Oy to improve skin, hair and nails; as well as a ginseng leaf extract for reducing cholesterol and improving the immune system from Hongjiu Biotech Co.
Spanish company Bioiberica also presented new products, including Cartisorb sticks which deliver 1500 mg Glucosamine and Imunil, an active ingredient which helps prevent opportunistic infections. Other products included Incromega 3mulsion by Croda, which offered a unique delivery system for omega 3 and is ideal for either stick-shot or syrup applications, while Ambe Phytoextracts PVT featured its Night Passion and Power Up products, which aid sexual health and physical sporting performance. Raw ingredients showcased included Curcuma/Turmeric and Boswelia extracts by Konark Herbals and Healthcare, while CreaNutrition previewed its Crispy Hearts cereal, which contained oat beta-glucan and offers heart health benefits.
New for 2012, the Finished Products Zone was set up as a dedicated area for dietary supplement companies looking to penetrate multiple markets in Asia. It highlighted stands from the likes of Biotivia Bioceuticals LLC, Chengdu Better Biology Technology Co., Ltd., Golden Biotechnology Corp. and Hankintatukku Oy, which demonstrated weight management, anti-ageing and vitamin and mineral supplements. The zone also featured a popular Tasting Bar allowing visitors to sample products ranging from cereal bars to sports nutrition drinks and children’s supplements.
Vitafoods Asia will return to the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong from 4 – 6 September 2013 as well as Vitafoods shows in South America and Europe.
